Regenerative medicine is a developing type of medical treatment which focuses on specific treatments for the body to rebuild itself. Without undergoing surgery, regenerative medicine treatments encourage the body to strengthen and heal. While the human body is capable of healing itself from different types of injuries, regenerative medicine targets the body’s ability and success to heal what is hurt or injured. Rather than covering up the pain, regenerative therapy and injections target the source of the pain or the injury to completely eradicate it and to bring you lasting relief.

There are different types of regenerative medicine treatments out there, all focusing on different forms of bodily healing. Here at Optimal Health, we offer a variety of these treatments, including prolotherapy, platelet rich plasma treatments (also known as PRP injections), and pain and injury treatments.

We specialize in non-surgical orthopedic and sports medicine, so the treatments we offer are centered around injuries, chronic pain in the back and neck area, arthritis, and much, much more. If you are dealing with an injury or are in any type of pain that you want addressed, our regenerative medicine and pain management treatments at Optimal Health Medical Fitness might be your ticket to relieve your pain for good.

Trigger Point Injections

As a pain or injury treatment option, trigger point injections target areas of muscles that have uncomfortable and painful knots, which are the trigger points. These trigger points can be painful because they irritate the surrounding muscles and nerves. They can also cause referred pain, which is pain felt in other parts of the body, but which stems from the trigger point itself.

During the trigger point treatment, an injection of numbing anesthetic or saline is inserted into the patient’s trigger point area. The injection relaxes the muscular area around the trigger point, increasing the blood flow, reducing muscle spasms, and bringing relief.

If you are dealing with myofascial pain syndrome or fibromyalgia, trigger point injection treatments are an effective type of pain treatment. Find more information here.

Prolotherapy

Prolotherapy is a nonsurgical, reconstructive ligament therapy treatment. If you are dealing with arthritis or chronic pain due to an injury or something else, prolotherapy might be the right option for you. Targeting weakened joints, ligaments, and tendons, prolotherapy stimulates the body’s ability to heal and restore itself to bring you lasting pain relief rather than masking the pain temporarily.

Prolotherapy, a type of regenerative medicine, uses injections of dextrose and Lidocaine (an anesthetic) to treat the specified areas of pain or injury. The solution in the injections, which are injected into the specified ligament, tendon, or joint, encourages tissue healing in that area. The interesting thing about prolotherapy, and why it proves to be effective, is that it does not mask pain — it targets the source of the injury or pain so your body can fully heal.

Platelet-rich Plasma Therapy (PRP Injections)

Very similar to prolotherapy treatments, platelet-rich plasma therapy uses injections to target chronic pain and degenerative injuries in joints, ligaments, and tendons. By injecting a stimulating solution into the area of pain with PRP injections, or even prolotherapy, the body is encouraged to strengthen its ability to heal and restore the injuries it has incurred.

Platelet-rich plasma is in the human blood, and is a concentration of growth and healing cells. To experience relief in your areas of pain and injury, the PRP injection treatments last up to four or five months, if not longer. In the long run, you will feel pain relief, an increase in functional activities, and you won’t have to rely on pain medications as much.

If you are an athlete or are heavily involved in sports and have been injured, PRP injections can bring you relief. Conditions treated with these injections include: degenerative disc disease, chronic overuse injuries of the ankles, shoulders, and knees, arthritic joints, as well as chronic back and spine pain, as well as carpal tunnel syndrome, shin splints, plantar fasciitis, IT band syndrome, and Achilles tendonitis, among others.

Suffering an injury and experiencing pain is never fun, and waiting to heal is not any easier. Sometimes our body needs proper encouragement to finish the healing process. This is where regenerative medicine and pain treatment come in and play an effective role in eliminating pain and encouraging the body’s healing and restoration functions.
